Since you all care WAY too much about the minutae of my everyday existence, I thought I'd share the songs that have been doing the rounds on my iPod/iTunes recently:
- Fear Not of Men - Mos Def
- When You Were Mine - Prince
- I Feel Good - Jay Electronica
- The Rape Over - Mos Def
- Breaker, Breaker - GZA
- Creep - Radiohead

Also, when writing, I find Eagle Eye Cherry to be very effective.
Welcome
"We, the elite Linkstigators, have formed like Voltron, We could have used our powers for evil. It was quite tempting, actually. But instead, we have decided to bless the internets with the most slammin' blog (no pun intended). A blog which is dedicated mainly to the game of basketball, but also to diverse topics such as Mountain Dew Code Red, Democratic primaries, Guitar Hero 3 and post-structuralism. We are sponsored by Nabisco."
The Players
Cheryl
Cheryl will offer “A Sistah’s Point of View” (ASPOV) to this madness, because as you will read over the next few months, it will be needed. I see connections, like Haley Joel Osment sees dead people. Connections between modern sports, culture, politics, race and racialization, art and dance, religion and myth. I will try to point these out without being too esoteric or dogmatic (but if I am, sue me). But what you can always expect is that I will be open, honest, and often catty. (That was an awfully un-feminist thing to say, huh?)”
Eboy
White Hot Eboy, or just plain E, is a polarizing figure. On the SLAM site, the place of his e-origin, Eboy seems to move between love for his regular foils to sheer unbridled hate for his detractors. Here in this blogventure, look for Eboy to speak on basketball in all forms, movies, tv, politics, sports in general and anything else that he can throw his opinion at. Besides, he's legally obligated to be truthful and forthright, so stay ready, an E-storm is brewing.
TADOne
TADOne, or just plain TAD, is quite possibly the most sane member of this blog group, although, that is not saying much. My sarcasm, or just plain lack of empathy, has been known to reach epic levels of true disdain. Because of this, I have a love of binge drinking and mindless humor. Therapy is good.
Tariq
I am a sensitive, delicate soul. I use sarcasm and cynicism as self-defense mechanisms, douchebag. I do this to protect my faberge-egg-like psyche. If only I could increase my self-confidence, maybe then I could achieve a moment of sincerity. But I can't. So instead I have to be content with writing sublime pieces which delve into the realms of basketball, football (American), football (real), literature, religion, The Legend of Zelda and Reese's Pieces. I may even occassionally shed some insight into the complexities of the human condition. No promises, though.
My turn-ons are non-smokers and world peace. My turn-offs include crystal meth and springtime.
AR
You may (though most likely don't) know me as commenter H to the izzo from SLAMonline.I will no longer answer to that moniker-ever.I'm retiring only to return again, but this won't be no Linkin Park collaboration. My list of lifetime achievements include being the second most foreign member. The youngest member, the least educated member.I roughly rank as the 3rd most white member and am three time Vodka chugging champion in my district.I intend to prove that basketball opinion and having little else better to do are a dangerous mix.I am usually wrong and am possessed by the ghost of Charles Oakley's right fist.

New Kids may have trumped a third of your choices.
Eboy:
If you're simply making fun of me, as per usual, then touche. But if you really think a third of my choices suck, then we must end our e-friendship immediately.
I'll give you "Who's Johnny", which I love for the nostalgia factor, and Eagle Eye Cherry, who I think is good, but wouldn't defend to the death. Other than that, where have I erred, oh great Eboy? Or is it the dearth of 80s hair metal bands? Sweet Child O Mine's in there, dude!
Anything with Estelle in it makes me want to kill myself, but other than that good list.Am going through a Pearl Jam phase myself.
If you are going to include El Debarge, you have to go "The Last Dragon."
WHO'S THE MASTER!?!?!
I have been on a Digable kick as of late. Also Pavement.
what up fellas!?!
Speaking of Pavement,Silver Jew has had some considerable play on my iPod lately.
Sweet Child O Mine - Guns n Roses
Even Flow - Pearl Jam
Eight Days a Week - The Beatles
Shitty choices from three legendary bands.
"Who's Johnny" just proves your fruitivity.
Eboy is just upset you put up his high school pic.
A Cub sighting!! Right now i'm chasing you between the Slam boards and here my man. TAG, you're it!
I'm fully convinced that Eboy is actually 80's teen heart throb Glen Medeiros.
I'll tell McKenzie Phillips you said hi, AR!
Wasn't she last seen at a party at Don Henly's house doing a line of coke off Linda Ronstadt's ass?
"Last thing I rememeber,
I was running for the door,
I had to find my passage back
to the place I was before"
Cub:
I've been wanting to email you about the Green Falcons for some time now. Don't go acting all celebrity-like on me!
Eboy:
You are the fruit, Mr. Tiny Banana Hammock (I think that was a non sequitar).
Anyway, 8 Days a Week and Sweet Child are my FAVORITE songs by the Beatles and GNR respectively. Even Flow is not my clear cut Pearl Jam fave, but it's up there. Hell, it's even on Guitar Hero.
Moral of the story: Stop bothering us with good taste, Gramps, and go back to memorizing your Twisted Sister 8-Tracks or some shit. Much obliged.
And Alan, I don't even know who Estelle is, but do yourself a favor and listen to that track. Matter of fact, listen to ANY Kidz n the Hall.
Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, TAD, but the Wu's "Fast Shadow" from the Ghost Dog soundtrack had the potential to be a classic: great beat + Meth absolutely KILLS it. Too bad fuckin U-God had to ruin it.
Also:
TAD, regarding the "high school pic" crack:
HAAAAAAA!
Tariq: You answered your own query about the "Fast Shadow" track. U-God and classic will never, ever be in the same sentence.
Perhaps I should write a "in the mind of" piece about MF Doom to get some acceptance on this crappy blog.
Carter III is what I bump. 3-peat!
TAD:
Regarding the U-God/classic conundrum, I have one word for you: Triumph.
Also, some verses from memory (which may be error-laden:
Olympic torch flamin'/ It burns so sweet/ The thrill of victory/ Agony, defeat/ We crush slow/ Flamin deluxe low/ War/ Judgment Day cometh/ Conquer, is ..../ Allow us to escape hell/ Globe spinnin' bomb/ Pocket full of shells/ Out the sky Golden Arms/ ......mortal combat sounds/ The ....checkmate/ The blood stains the ground/ A jungle junkie/ Vigilante tantrum/ A death kiss, catwalk/ Squeeze another anthem/ Hold it for ransom/ Tranquilize with anesthesis/ An orchestra/ Graceful/ Music ballerina/ My music sicily/ Rich California smell/ An axe killer adventure/ Paint a picture well/ I sing a song from sing-sing/ Sippin on ginesing/Rugged rap chaperone/ Rotating ring king.
That would be what I call "nice".
Tariq,
celebrity-like?!?!?
You been diggin' on euro 08? Been loving this Turkish side.
Russia have surprised me. They've probably been the best team. If Turkey win the cup, I'll dance Uncle Balki's dance of joy (Don't think anyone will get that reference. Not too many people from Mepos).
Anyway, what's your email? Or drop me an email at t_alhayder@yahoo.com
True enough Tariq. I guess you got me there.
The Hurricane is a jammin classic
And Justice for All is done by Metallica although that may be coincidence.
Rock You Like A Hurricane.... yeh, that is some sweet rock music.
hursty:
I think you're very confused, but I like it. Anyway, to clear it up:
"Rock You Like a Hurricane" is by, if I'm not mistaken, The Scorpions. "The Hurricane" is a protest song by Bob Dylan which has to do with the unjust imprisonment of Ruben "Hurricane" Carter.
"And Justice For All" is indeed a song (and album) by Metallica, but it's also a song by the Wu-Tang Killa Bees (affiliated to but not the actual Wu-Tang Clan, although the original Wu members do perform with them, so it's kinda confusing). It's from the album The Swarm, and I like it because Method Man, as usual, kills the fuck out of it:
In the heat of the night/ My 4-7-7th/ Mash on the mic/ Killa Army and Trapper John MD/ Full Metal Jacket/ 'Cause some got to have it/ Kill or be killed/ Only time will reveal/ I think by myself and I drink by myself/ From 9, 8, until.../ Let me know it's real, son, if it's really real/ Understandable/ Self-explainable/ Caution: John Blaze flammable/ When under pressure/ Interchangeable and still/ Comin' down like precipitation/ As I reign (rain) undisputed/ How Johnny do it/ Dangerously/ Whoopin' cough/ (cough, cough)/ Two and off/ Stank pussy make my dick soft/ Bottom line be this:/ High explosif/ Not for the average Joseph/ Come and get some/ Old lady keep one/ Up in the chamber/ Blast with my middle finger...
Now if that's not cold, hard, beautiful rap, I don't know what is.
P.S.
"And Justice for All" is also a film with Al Pacino which I haven't seen.
yeh it is the scorpions. Your right on all accounts inc. Pacino movie.
LOL! Balki was never an uncle.. that I remember/know of.
"Cosin Lary, now we are so happy.. we do the dance of joy! Dai dai dai...dada dadada dai. oy! oy! oy! oy!" *jumps into Larry's lap*
Best show ever!!
Bonus question: what was Balki's sheep name?
P.S. Germany has Euro08 on lock!
anonymous:
You are now my hero.
I forgot about the "uncle" part. I was thinking of "cousin" Larry. Balki's sheep was Dimitri, right?
DING! DING! DING!
Dimitri is the right answer Mr. Al Hayder.
Don't call me your hero just yet... I am one from the LAND of FLUX. I don't have a blogger ID so I had to go anonymous.
Anyway.. you bringing the dance up made me look it up. I was a little off but still pretty close:

So is that Fluxland from the Slam boards? I'm so confused....
Yes TAD!
